Raleigh, NC goes LED!

Here's a great article on the city governmnet of Raleigh, NC opting for LED lighting fixtures for all city facilities. The fixtures are going to be supplied by Cree.
EERE News: Raleigh, North Carolina, Commits to LED Lighting: "Raleigh, North Carolina, aims to become an 'LED City' through a wide deployment over the next 18 months of lights that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Raleigh first installed LED lighting in one floor of its municipal building's parking garage in December 2006, and has already quantified a 40 percent energy savings and a great improvement in lighting on that floor. The project used LEDs from Cree, Inc. that were incorporated into fixtures by the Lighting Science Group Corporation (LSGC) and installed by Amtech Lighting Services."

The top picture is the fixture supplied by Cree. It looks like a bunch of 5mm LEDs on a board... not the most elegant design considering the high-power LED products available.

Here's the new lighting fixture made by Edison-opto. I think it's a better design.

This and ALL Edison-opto devices are available from IDEA Components.
