A Beautiful Sunflower absorbs your LED's heat!

Thermal management has long been the greatest obstacle when developing applications using high-power LED products. Edison-opto has now developed an off-the-shelf thermal control product specifically designed to be used with their 1W and 3W Edixeon emitters. The Sunflower Series utilizes an elegant thermal management techniques developed by the experts at Edison-opto, Taiwan's leading high-power LED manufacturer.

This new product will allow engineers and designers to skip ahead in their design process since thermal issues have already been handled by Edison-opto. Now designers can focus more on their fantastic new idea instead of killing themselves trying to work with thermal management issues!

::: Here is Edison's original press release in the original English ;) ::::

"Edison Opto Corp., a Taiwan based High Power LED package manufacturer which is dedicated to be the High Power LED total solution provider. Recently we had successfully developed the thermal solution for 1W and 3W LED modules – Sunflower series.

The Sunflower series - LED modules, are combined by Edison’s High Power LED, heat sink, and PCB. The sunflower heat sink is specially designed for Edison’s 1W and 3W High Power LED. The Sunflower series provide the simply thermal solution for LED lighting designer. The Sunflower series apply the advantage of vertical heat conduction which help increase the flux at small area.

By the excellent design of heat Sunflower series will be balanced around 65-75℃. The dedicate design of Sunflower heat sink make module assembly easily and efficiently.

We can supply the 1W and 3W products, and the colors have: white, warm white, red, red-orange, amber, true green, and blue.

Hmmm. Looks like it could almost be... A heat sink? Nooo, couldn't be because heat sinks aren't "Elegant" and certainly not beautiful though that is in the eye of the beholder. Still its not the usual approach and I have to admit using them myself in the past so I shouldn't make fun. Edison at least has the guts to do it when everyone else just glues them to the now passe` star "board" and thinks the work is done. That makes driver selection very important.
A mainland China company even skipped the mount and inset the die into a pit in the star and so skipped having to stock 2 parts or make an actual emitter. So OK the sunflower probably does keep the LED cool and lord knows they do get hot if you max their input/output. Now how do I fit it into my penlite?
