Raleigh, NC goes LED!

Here's a great article on the city governmnet of Raleigh, NC opting for LED lighting fixtures for all city facilities. The fixtures are going to be supplied by Cree.
EERE News: Raleigh, North Carolina, Commits to LED Lighting: "Raleigh, North Carolina, aims to become an 'LED City' through a wide deployment over the next 18 months of lights that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Raleigh first installed LED lighting in one floor of its municipal building's parking garage in December 2006, and has already quantified a 40 percent energy savings and a great improvement in lighting on that floor. The project used LEDs from Cree, Inc. that were incorporated into fixtures by the Lighting Science Group Corporation (LSGC) and installed by Amtech Lighting Services."

The top picture is the fixture supplied by Cree. It looks like a bunch of 5mm LEDs on a board... not the most elegant design considering the high-power LED products available.

Here's the new lighting fixture made by Edison-opto. I think it's a better design.

This and ALL Edison-opto devices are available from IDEA Components.

High Power Infrared Emitters gain in popularity

Edison-opto's high power infrared (IR) Edixeon Emitters are becoming one of the more sought after products offered by IDEA Components. The high-power IR LED emits wavelengths at 850 nm and are available in a 1W package. They reach 400mW but can reach 700mW/sr by utilizing some of Edison's secondary optic products.

We've not been able to find any other high power IR products by the leading high power LED manufacturers that can match Edison-opto's performance.

::: Here is Edison Opto's original press release in the original English ;) ::::
"Edison Opto Corporation is a Taiwan based High Power LED packaging manufacturer, who is dedicated to become the High Power LED total solution provider. Recently Edison successfully developed a series of Infrared High Power LEDs (0.7W-2W) --- known as the IR Edixeon range.

IR Edixeon LEDs can be driven at 700 mA or 1000mA and reach 280mW and 400mW. IR Edixeon LEDs bring a new solution for the light source for night vision systems, where their small dimension, high intensity and high reliability offer enhanced performance.

The original emitting angle of IR Edixeon LEDs is 120 degrees, but with suitable Secondary Optics, the intensity can increase to 700mW/sr. The IR Edixeon is available in two different wavelengths of 850 nm and 940 nm for different application."

Edison-opto's High Power Infrared (High power IR) LED is available at IDEA Components. In fact these high power LEDs are usually in stock and ship the next day after receiving orders at IDEA Components.

A Beautiful Sunflower absorbs your LED's heat!

Thermal management has long been the greatest obstacle when developing applications using high-power LED products. Edison-opto has now developed an off-the-shelf thermal control product specifically designed to be used with their 1W and 3W Edixeon emitters. The Sunflower Series utilizes an elegant thermal management techniques developed by the experts at Edison-opto, Taiwan's leading high-power LED manufacturer.

This new product will allow engineers and designers to skip ahead in their design process since thermal issues have already been handled by Edison-opto. Now designers can focus more on their fantastic new idea instead of killing themselves trying to work with thermal management issues!

::: Here is Edison's original press release in the original English ;) ::::

"Edison Opto Corp., a Taiwan based High Power LED package manufacturer which is dedicated to be the High Power LED total solution provider. Recently we had successfully developed the thermal solution for 1W and 3W LED modules – Sunflower series.

The Sunflower series - LED modules, are combined by Edison’s High Power LED, heat sink, and PCB. The sunflower heat sink is specially designed for Edison’s 1W and 3W High Power LED. The Sunflower series provide the simply thermal solution for LED lighting designer. The Sunflower series apply the advantage of vertical heat conduction which help increase the flux at small area.

By the excellent design of heat Sunflower series will be balanced around 65-75℃. The dedicate design of Sunflower heat sink make module assembly easily and efficiently.

We can supply the 1W and 3W products, and the colors have: white, warm white, red, red-orange, amber, true green, and blue.

Edison Opto Corp. is available to provide the High Power LED total solution with our advanced knowledge in optics design, thermal management and circuit design will help all the client handle High Power LED in their application."

Look out, fluorescent... LEDs are coming!

Edison-opto's brand new EdiLine 5W linear lighting module is pumping out 250 lumens in a single packaged LED array. It's versatile for many different designs so engineers can utilize it in a linear configuration or as a superficial light source. Operating at approx. 10.7V, the energy savings are comperable to flourescent lighting, but is efficient to the tune of 50,000 hours!

Here is the press release in Edison's original english:: "Edison Opto launches 250 lumens 5W white linear single-package LED, EdiLine 2007.3.10

Edison Opto, a Taiwan based high power LED packaging manufacture, has introduced its latest product, EdiLine. The device is measured at 40mm x 4mm x 1.3mm, with luminous flux of 250 lumens at a drive current of 500mA.

The circuit design is a 5 parallel - 3 series connection, and the operating voltage is approximately 10.7V. The thermal resistance of EdiLine is 5 °C/Watt; with applicable heat dissipation, the lifespan is expected to exceed 50,000 hours.

EdiLine series incorporate the latest and the most advanced packaging materials and technologies from Edison Opto. The linear structure design results in an easier heat dissipation requirement, making versatile fixtures design possible as well as an overall cost saving benefit.

The particular twin connectors design allows EdiLine to be assembled in either serial order as linear light source or parallel order as superficial light source. Users can also manipulate the position of EdiLine to effortlessly construct a serial or parallel connection circuit as desired.

Thanks to the versatility of EdiLine, both linear and superficial light source are easily attainable. Combined with the high efficacy, EdiLine is the ideal substitute for various lighting applications, such as fluorescent lamp, table lamp, street light, and backlight for LCD. EdiLine are available in white, warm white, blue, green, amber, and red color."

EdiLine and all Edison-opto products are available in the USA at IDEA Components.
